One of the newest and most effective ways to advertise a website these days is the pay per click advertising campaign. Using some new technology, webmasters are getting their site exposed on other relevant sites across the web and paying only when someone clicks on the link.

This is a very effective method for exposing your site to the masses as you site back and watch the people roll in. Of course there are some things that you should know about pay per click advertising before just jumping into a campaign. Like anything else, pay per click advertising is for the serious webmaster who needs to drive targeted traffic to their site.

Pay per click advertising is not for everyone. There are certain criteria that must be met by the site that is being advertised before a campaign can even begin. For the most part sites that contain offensive material are not allowed through this type of advertising venue, this includes pornography and also hate/racial material to name a couple.

There is also the fact that the site cannot be a holding site or a redirect. This is very common as the company wants to protect against viral infections for those that use the program to display ads on their site. Broken links, poor quality and things along those lines will also get your site banned from the program. All in all these programs are only for quality websites that are not offensive and family friendly for the most part.

You should also take into consideration that this kind of advertising program does not guarantee any kind of sales. The way the program works is this: You design the ads that you want to display (usually text only) and submit to the company. Then you will determine how much you are willing to pay per click.

Once that is set the campaign begins and the ads will begin displaying on sites that have opted to have the advertising displayed in return for money. Each time a unique user clicks on an ad you are charged based on the rate that you set. So if you set twenty five cents as the click rate and four unique people click on the ad you now owe the company one dollar. This money is split between the company that runs the ad and the website owner that displays the ad.

The beauty of this type of advertising is the fact that you only pay for unique clicks on the ad that lead to your site. The technology tracks all clicks and makes certain that you are not paying for someone who is clicking to build their own revenue stream. This helps to make sure that you are getting only targeted traffic to your site based on the sites that your ad is displayed on. The webmasters where the sites are displayed are forbidden from clicking on the ads and also from encouraging others to do so. This gives you the added peace of mind that your advertising dollars are being well spent.
