Step #1
Content is king
That’s the first thing you should start with when your blog is up and running. You need content (posts) to get quality traffic. When readers like your blog, they will most likeliy come back to read more. You should write about topics that is of interest, else you will not manage to update your blog in the long run.
Less migh be best
In the beginning of your blogging career, you should concentrate on a few posts each week. Don’t over do it, unless your writing a celebrity or news blog. It will be easier for you to update the blog later when your readers expect 2-3 posts a week.
Quality never fails
Writing quality posts will get you steady traffic and good backlinks. Post should not be to long, but useful and right to the point. It will serve you very well in the long run because readers don’t want to spend to much time on each post. People will talk and write about your blog when you have quality posts, which will help you get nice amount
Step #2
Search engine submission
Letting search engines know that your blog exist should be the second thing you need to look into. This will help readers reach your site on relevant search tags. People that’s searching for helpful guides might also see your posts if they are of relevance.
Where to submit?
Go to google.com and yahoo.com to submit your site. These search engines will eventually crawl your site anyway, but submitting it earlier helps. The are numerous other search engines that you should submit to, but these are the most common ones.
Submitting services
You have submitting services that will help you with this. I personally haven't used any of them yet, but they do exist. Some of them are submitexpress and addpro My personal advice would be to do this part yourself. I really don’t think submitting to 100’s of search engines will benefit your blog that much.
Step #3
Directory submissionThe idea behind submitting your site to directories is to get backlinks. Backlinks help your blog rank higher in search engines, which again lead to more traffic. You should use some time to find the right directories for your blog, because there are seriously lots of directories out there.
Quality directories
Quality directories are always human edited. That ensures mostly relevant sites to get added to the directory. Check out a few of its added sites and how long the directoriy have been online. Theres a tool for checking domain age at webconfs.
Adding your site
Browse for the relevant category and submitt your site. You will need to write a short description about your site. It is important to be accurate about the description, because that is what people will see under your URL. After submitting you will most likely have to respond to an e-mail to confirm your site.
How many directories should I add my site?
There’s no rule for this question, but you shouldn’t add your site to thousands every day. That will get your site sandboxed by google because of spam. I would say 5-10 every day helps, but thats entirely up to how much time you have.
Directory submission services
There are directory submission sites that will help you with this. They are able to submit your site to hundreds of sites every day. I would be very sceptical about such a service, but since they pop up everywhere there might be some benefits to it. It’s up to you, but don’t belive everything you read on such sites.
