Definition: Page Title

A page title is NOT the headings on the web page that "head up" a particular section of information. The page title is what shows up in the title bar of your web browser (at the very top) and is what is saved as the "bookmark description" when you bookmark a page or put it in your favorites.


Definition: Proxy Server

A server that stores a page remotely in order to speed loading time. This is very bad for advertisers, as it really distorts statistics.


Definition: Rating Tags

Rating tags are simply little Meta Tags that let you self rate your page. There is more information about them at the RSACI website.

Definition: Reciprocal Linking

When two sites get together and decide that they want to both promote each others sites. It is benificial for both.
Usualy, both sites place a simple text link to the other on a links page.

Definition: Reload

When someone refreshes the page. Usually initiated by the visitor, but some web pages are programmed to automaticly reload after a set amount of time.

Definition: Robot

In the web industry, a robot is a computer that accesses your page to gather information from it, without a human ever seeing it. The most common types of robots come from the search engines.

Definition: Search Engines

Programs used to search the Internet. Good examples of these are Infoseek and Webcrawler. Promotion World has a large section on search engines.
