Facebook, the Most Popular Social Networking Site, Turns 5 Years Old

Happy birthday to Facebook.

Five years ago today, the social networking site (thefacebook.com) was launched by Mark Zuckerberg along with his fellow Harvard classmates Chris Hughes, Dustin Moskovitz, and Eduardo Saverin. During the years, Facebook has become one of the most popular and trusted websites with over 150 million people around the globe using Facebook to connect with the people in their lives.

Very impressive facts Facebook revealed:

•    15 million users update their statuses at least once each day
•    850 million photos are uploaded to the site each month and shared with friends
•    24 million pieces of content such as links, news stories, notes, blog posts are shared each month
•    3.5 million users become fans of Pages each day
•    On average, a user has about 120 Facebook friends
•    There are 52,000 applications currently available created by more than 660,000 developers and entrepreneurs from more than 180 countries
•    Over 70% of Facebook users are outside the United States

“As we celebrate Facebook's 5th birthday, we continue to work hard to evolve Facebook and make it as simple as possible to communicate with and understand the people and entities that matter to you.” Mark Zuckerberg wrote yesterday on the Facebook blog.
