Week in Review: Search Engine NewsBy Milena Sotirova The rivalry between the major search engines seems to continue this year with Google Inc. and Yahoo Inc. becoming more and more different. The both search engines have strived for different goals. Most of the experts believe the capital expenditure gap will widen in 2005. It is expected Google to spend $450 million while Yahoo allots about $250 million. An interesting research was launched in the first days of this year. What search engine do Google employees use Survey was the research question. The research is done by VisitorVille Intelligence. The results, not surprisingly, show 100% of them use Google. 68% of Googlers use Internet Explorer, with 21% using a Mozilla-based browser, while 84% of Google has Windows XP, compared with 5% for Linux. Here are even more interesting data about Yahoo employees, MSN, and Apple. An interesting expert view was released last week, stating Google is aimed to transforming the way the users finds and stores information. Yahoo, owner of the world's most popular Web site, has a different approach as it strives to be a one-stop destination for all searches, concludes the SEO guru. The rebuilding efforts for those affected by the earthquake and tsunami evoke participation of the many SEO companies and experts. The SEO and author of the SEO Book, Aaron Wall announced he will be donating all January revenues from the sale of his 120 page E-Book to Tsunami relief efforts. The best optimized in Google by "SEO book" SEO Book, which sells for $79US is a do-it-yourself manual covering organic SEO techniques. Discussing the SEO techniques, the latest news were focused on the importance of the links in the search engine optimization. The links were considered as one of the most important factors especially to Google. Yahoo and the MSN Beta were estimated to give content related factors more weight according to some experts. Last week, the search engine optimization firm Elixir Systems announced an agreement with Atmel, Inc. to provide search engine optimization to increase their presence within search engines. According to some researches, which results were announced last week, it is expected the behavior of the searchers to influence the search engines' development. Learning from the users' search habits, the search engines improve their search criteria and methodology, creating new search culture in the searchers.
