Web development and design content firm,
Sitepoint.com, says webmasters, bloggers, and community site owners are
now taking advantage of the best-ever time to sell their ''mini
online-businesses'' - sometimes for healthy, six-figure sums.
Multi-million dollar acquisitions by firms such as News Corp, Google,
Yahoo!, and others have created a very active ''website aftermarket''
for budding entrepreneurs looking to strike while the iron is hot.
According to sitepoint.com, for less than $10 USD, a seller can list a
site for sale and present it to a sizable pool of interested and
well-informed buyers. Most listings with established traffic and
revenue sell in less than two weeks, at prices ranging from a few
hundred dollars to private transactions in the six-figure range.
Recent notable sales through SitePoint include:
The Blog Herald - News site about the blogging industry sold for tens
of thousands of dollars through SitePoint. The seller, Jeremy Wright,
advertised the blog as having 750,000 unique visitors per month and
generating an annual income of over $24,000 per year.
OnlineGames.net - With over 1.5 million unique visitors per month was a
sought-after property. Public bidding for the site reached $45,000 USD
before the owner sold the site to an undisclosed buyer. The owner, Jon,
indicated, ''I received an offer that I couldn’t refuse,'' (hinting at
a much higher selling price than the publicly listed bid of $45,000).
Stormloader - Free hosting community with over 200,000 established
members that has been online since 1999 and is currently generating
between $4000 - $6000 a month in revenue. The site is listed with an
asking price of $70,000 and currently has offers in the $50,000 range.
Mark Harbottle, CEO and Co-Founder of SitePoint commented, ''For every
high profile site like Flickr.com or MySpace.com, there are literally
hundreds of thousands of profitable little web sites doing very nicely
for their owners. It’s fantastic to see that buyers have finally caught
on and are snapping them up -- it's an exciting time to be doing
business on the web.''
