A webmaster and search engine marketing enthusiast who goes by the pseudonym "Retsambew," (Webmaster spelled backwards) has wants to win a Search Engine Optimization SEO contest announced by Webmaster-Talk. The contest requires entrants to purchase a new domain so that the playing field will be fair, then rise to the number one position for the search terms "retsambew dash klat for charity." The deliberately cryptic phrase simply means webmaster talk for charity. The contest will come to a halt on September 1st, 2006.

Many so called SEO contests have come and gone, offering various prizes and ego boosting benefits (retsambew dash klat for charity prizes exceed $5000 in value), but what truely makes this one different? "Retsambew" says that he gets to support his favorite charity (each contest entrant must choose at least one charity from Give.org to appear on the winning page). "I've followed Voice of the Martyrs for years and strongly support their efforts to help oppressed Christians in countries that do not tolerate their faith."

Who is "Retsambew" and why an SEO contest? "I'm a bit of a charity case myself," chuckles Retsambew, as he goes on to describe the embarrassment of digging through trashcans to find coupons as he eeked out a living as web designer; that is, until he discovered the power of search engine optimization which he says is simply "making your site rank higher in search engines." He's not sailing the seas on a yacht, yet, but at least now using coupons are "an option, not a necessity."

What about the competition? "Retsambew" admits winning the retsambew dash klat for charity contest won't be easy. Webmasters from all over the world have their eyes on the prize and want to help their chosen charities. He's had his web site content stolen, has been publicly accused of cheating, has suffered spam attacks, and web hosting outages, but he doesn't focus on the negative. In fact, he claims to have improved his SEO techniques and had a good time working to win the contest. His SEO contest site has appeared as high as the number 3 position in Google so far. When asked what he'll do with the prizes should he win the contest, the eccentric webmaster smiles and says: "retsambew dash klat for charity."
