BusyTonight.com, the largest nationwide event listings site, announced
today that its database has surpassed 500,000 events in size, larger
than any other source of event listings in the U.S.
The honorary half-millionth event is "Software: What VCs Are Funding
and Why," an event at Carnegie Mellon University's West Coast Campus in
Santa Clara, Calif., taking place Thursday, November 16th, 2006. Visit
busytonight.com and search for "ann winblad" in "All Cities" for more
information.
"We're pleased to see that our automated approach of compiling events
has resulted in a vastly larger, more complete, and more current data
set for our users," said CEO Joshua C. Lerner. BusyTonight.com's
listings are aggregated and updated automatically by a custom search
technology suite, which crawls the Web looking for newly published
event listings.
The BusyTonight.com database currently stands at over 500,000 future
events across the top 500 U.S. metros, with the best coverage in:
* New York City - 34,000 events
* Los Angeles - 22,000 events
* San Francisco - 19,000 events
* Philadelphia - 18,000 events
* and Chicago - 15,000 events
"The approach taken by our competitors - expecting users to type in
events by hand - simply won't scale. In Los Angeles, Zvents has about
2,500 events, Citysearch about 2,000, and Upcoming.org fewer than 500.
We're larger by an order of magnitude, and our database is growing
rapidly." Since July 2006, the BusyTonight.com database has doubled in
size.
"We aim to index every official event data source on the Internet,"
said BusyTonight.com COO Richard Mintz. Webmasters and event sponsors
in the U.S. who want their listings to be included at no charge are
invited to click the "Suggest URL" link at busytonight.com.
BusyTonight.com will begin expanding internationally in early 2007.
