Splunk Shares Expertise by Leading Discussions at LISA '06

Industry experts from Splunk, creators of the search engine for logs and IT data, will lead several IT infrastructure sessions at LISA '06 in Washington, DC, December 3-7, 2006. LISA '06 will also serve as the platform for Splunk to announce the winner of the industry's first Sysadmin of the Year Award. Marking its 20th year, the Large Installation System Administration (LISA) Conference is an annual technical conference for the global community of system and network administrators.

Michael Baum, chief executive officer at Splunk, will deliver a presentation that will highlight the challenges of virtualization and offer troubleshooting tips within the IT environment. Michael's presentation, "Virtualization: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly," is on Wednesday, December 6 from 4:00-4:40 p.m. ET.

Splunk, in conjunction with SourceForge.net, Digg, NaSPA (the Network and Systems Professionals Association), LOPSA (the League of Professional System Administrators), USENIX/SAGE, and Bawls Guarana, will also announce the winner of the first Sysadmin of the Year Award, a contest to bring attention to the work of system administrators and recognize their outstanding achievements. The winner will be announced Wednesday, December 6 at 5:30 p.m. ET at the Exhibit Hall Reception.

Sessions: In addition to Michael Baum's presentation, experts from Splunk will deliver the following technical presentations:

"Leveraging the IT Community" Wednesday, December 6, 2:00-3:30 p.m. ET Patrick McGovern, vice president, community and services at Splunk, will address troubleshooting and leveraging the expertise and knowledge of IT professionals globally to find the solution. Patrick will address a new resource for sysadmins by sysadmins, concepts that made the site Wikipedia a great success, the challenges of building a large IT community/knowledge base, and how to bring IT troubleshooting to the next level.

"Building a Log and IT Data Infrastructure" Wednesday, December 6, 8:00-9:00 p.m. ET Industry experts from Splunk will be on hand and will provide a Birds of a Feather session on setting up a logging infrastructure. Experts will address data access methods, log rotation schemes, archiving and how to get data centralized with specific deployment architectures. Attendees will learn best practices for alerting on privilege events, monitoring configuration changes, performing ad hoc investigations and what to keep in mind when granting access to data.

The presentation, filled with beer, wine, and logging, will be located in Washington 1 room.
