New Service Launched for Creating Subject-Specific Search Engines and Web DirectoriesAugust 18, 2006; 02:30 AM Septet Systems Inc. has officially announced the alpha release of a free service based on the company's patent-pending Personal Search Syndication (PSS). PSS enables anybody or organization with access to the World Wide Web to rapidly construct custom Web directories and search engines that are focused on a topic defined by the author. The resulting Web directories or search engines can be readily pasted into a user's Web site or blog. "PSS democratizes the process of Web directory and search engine construction, leveraging the subject matter expertise of individuals or user groups to build search engines that deliver highly focused, relevant search results," according to Ben Epstein, a Septet co-founder. "Our implementation of PSS will have applicability to a very broad audience, bringing subject- specific search and directory capabilities to bloggers, social networking sites, academic research groups, corporate and government organizations, you name it." PSS directories and search engines, which are hosted by Septet, may be shared across defined user groups of the general base of Web users. The PSS alpha test, accessed at http://www.pssdir.com/, is now offered to a limited number of subscribers. Expanded premium services are envisioned, along with server license sales for organizations desiring to operate their own PSS capabilities.
