Information Industry Shortlists New Search Technology in the Best Speciality Search Category

November 28, 2006; 02:47 AM

New search trails technology, Trexy.com, has been shortlisted for The International Information Industry Awards 2006 in the category for Best Speciality Search. London based Trexy.com is the first search engine to interoperate with thousands of online databases to remember and share individual search trails.

Trexy's CEO and inventor, Nigel Hamilton said: "It is a great honour for Trexy to be recognised by the information industry. Not only do we help the individual searcher, we also help online databases and directories to increase the visibility of their data on the Web."

Trexy currently connects to over 3000 online databases. Databases can be added in real time using a simple, two-step process. This "Add Engine" feature can be accessed at: http://trexy.com/addtrexyengine.cgi.

"We want to give information professionals the power to remember and share their search trails on all the online engines they use. Having someone with expert knowledge of an information repository helps provide real authority when it comes to information retrieval. Librarians are natural trailblazers," he said.

Since launching this year, trailblazers from over 35 countries have contributed to the growing database of 900,000+ search trails. Search trails can be created by installing the free Trexy TrailBar.

The winner of the Best Speciality Search category will be announced at an awards ceremony hosted by Online Information and Information World Review. The ceremony will take place at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on the 29th of November 2006.

Prior to the awards ceremony, Nigel Hamilton will be speaking at the conference in Theatre C at 11.00 a.m. on: "Bookmarks, tags and favourites - what's next? Search Trails."

Trexy is a unique search technology that allows users to remember and share their searches and the web pages they visit by creating search trails. Trexy.com is inspired by scientist and visionary, Dr. Vannevar Bush, who in the 1940's shared his vision of creating a collective memory by recording peoples' trails through information. Bush dreamt of a device called a "Memex" - an enhanced supplement to personal and community memory created by trailblazers: "those who find delight in the task of establishing useful trails through the enormous mass of the common record." Free to use, Trexy's toolbar called the TrailBar, works with Firefox and IE browsers.
