Review: GifOptimizerby Joshua Reimer September 06, 1999 GifOptimizer is the type of service that I wish I had found long ago. It is so fast, easy and free. That is right, you won't find a "registered version only" in the whole site! GifOptimizer takes your gif image and simply removes the unused colors its color palette. It generally reduces images by 50-75% without any noticeable quality difference! I think that is pretty good. I mean, your website would have over 50% less fat on it! Their site is also simplicity at its best! You simply go to the main page, plonk in the gif's address, and it will come back with a whole bunch of optimized copies for you to choose from. Besides reducing colors, you can also resize the images to further conserve bandwidth. There is only one more thing I could ask for. Batch processing for when I want to do a whole bunch of graphics! However, I am not to perturbed by this, as I rarely do more than two or three graphics at a time. But for some people, this could be an issue. For those of you that only need to optimize a small number of graphics, GifOptimizer is an excellent service! Return to the Reviews section. |
