If you're like most bloggers, you probably don't think much about optimizing your online video content. The fact is that less than 20% of all content creators insert keywords into their videos' filenames on their website or blogs, and even fewer use more advanced tactics like writing keyword-rich captions and annotations, or creating online video libraries.
Universal search, or so-called "Blended search," can be seen everywhere. You have noticed it has become increasingly common on major search engines to be displayed videos, images, news stories, maps, and other types of results alongside the standard search results.
Some believe that optimizing video content and thus to take advantage of universal search is by far the easiest way to get a first-page organic ranking on Google. That's why I have put together some really useful tips on video optimization:
1. Insert keywords into your video filenames.
2. Host your videos on YouTube, and also embed them into your own site. According to Google their algorithms consider how many times a video is viewed. The views received on your own site get added to the 'views' tally on YouTube.
3. Optimize your YouTube videos by writing keywords into your videos' titles, descriptions, and tags.
4. Embed the video into relevant text page on your site. The context provided by the text on that page (which should be optimized for search as well) will help the search engines figure out what your video is all about.
5. Also create a video library on your site, so Google knows where to find your video content. (Google Video Sitemaps can help with this too.) Write keyword-rich annotations for each video in the library.
