Instant Traffic... or Not
Let me make one thing clear right now. Even though this is
probably one of the most complete, easy to understand
tutorials on the subject of promoting your site for beginners,
it won't get you instant traffic.
You heard right. You won't get people flocking to your site
as soon as you submit to the search engines, submit posts to
discussion lists, and all that.
No, you may not see instant gains from it. But I can assure
you, if you follow everything in this tutorial, you will
see some very good long term gains in traffic, and you will
have many more visitors to your site every day than you do now.
The initial promotion effort is the hardest. There are
search engines to submit to, banner exchanges to sign up
for, signature files to make, lists to post to, and more.
Don't worry if you don't know what any of those things are,
I'll come back to each of them and explain them all in detail.
But the point is, it isn't this hard forever. You see, there
is this hill. This hill is a promotion hill.
Once you get to the top of the hill, it's basically downhill
from there! Promotion World is a good example. I used to
spend hours promoting it every week. Now, I hardly have to
do anything to promote it, and there is considerable amount
of traffic coming through the site every day.
Why is that? Because those initial visitors that I got to
visit the site told all their friends. And they told their
friends. And so on, and so on, until my traffic slowly built
up. That's called word of mouth advertising - it's one of the best
ways to promote your site! I'll talk more about that later in the tutorial.
So, if you are prepared to do some hard work in promoting
your site, this tutorial is for you.
