Now take a deep breath... and get down to the work of actually submitting your site. There are eight big search engines that you need to submit to. Namely: Infoseek, Alta Vista, Excite, HotBot, Lycos, Webcrawler, Goto.com, and Northern Light. Additional Resources: Importance of Search Engine Positioning Kajetan thinks that a lot of people underestimate the value of getting a good listing in the search engines. Each one is a bit different (in some cases a lot different), and there are special things you need to watch for when submitting to each of these. Now, you will notice that I didn't include Yahoo in that list of the Big Eight search engines. Why? Because it isn't a search engine. Technically, it is a directory. Yahoo is also one of the most important places to get listed. Because of this, I have created a special section of this tutorial on the subject of getting listed there. The next few pages contain search engine specific submission tips.
