General Link Trading Talk

Why should you trade links? That question is pretty simple. It is yet another means to drive traffic to your page.

Exchanging links usually works like this. You go up to another webmaster, and ask if they would like to trade links. If they say yes, you each put a link to the other's website on your main page, or links page.

That sounds simple, right? Well, like all things, it isn't quite as simple as it sounds.

If you want to get any good return from it, and not just lose all your traffic through your links to other pages, you need to know a few of the things to look out for. I will be talking more about that pretty soon.

It is a fair bit of work to trade links, but it is an absolute MUST if you want to get any serious traffic.

Some people are against trading links because they don't want to link to their competition. I can see their point. However, you should try to find and link to sites on a slightly different subject matter, not ones that you are directly competing with.

For instance, to come back to the well used example, if you had a site about raising and selling beetles, and you don't sell beetle feeders, (are there even such things?!), you might link to a site that sold them. That would be helping your visitors out, by giving them information they need. It also wouldn't be taking business away from you.

Now that you shouldn't have any excuses for not exchanging links left... let's move on.
