How to Find Good Links
This is where it gets tricky. The first thing you need to do
is find a number of sites on a similar theme to yours. You
can do this through the search engines, or from other people's links lists.
Try to build up a small list of sites that you want to trade
links with. Make sure you go with sites similar to yours,
and ones that probably have about the same amount of traffic
as yours. You want it to be an even trade.
Also, you don't want to choose low quality sites. You really
don't want to be recommending poor quality sites on your site, do you?
Be very picky.
Once you have a list of sites that you would like to trade
links with, compose a letter asking if the other site would
like to trade links. It can be something like this:
Dear [ Insert Name ],
I visited your site, [ Insert Site Name ], today, and really
like it. I run a site similar to yours, and was wondering if you
would like to trade links with me?
You can see my site at [ Your Site's URL ]. I would give your
site a prominent listing on my page, if you would be willing to
do the same.
Thank you for your time! Please let me know what you want to do.
Sincerely,
[ Your Name]
Make sure to personalize it as much as you can, so that the
recipient of the email knows that your message isn't just a spam.
Once you have composed your message, go around to the sites
on your list. Find out all the information you need to fill
in the blanks in your message. Then send it out!
If you send a nice letter like the one above, and have a
pretty good website, I am sure you will get a good response.
There are other ways to get links to your site. There are a
few different site matchmaking services that will find sites
one a similar subject to make your search easier. But still
remember, only choose quality sites.
