Google Filters

Seo tips, seo process, about google search engine

If you are currently implementing search engine optimization techniques to increase your websites search engine rankings then you may notice that the rankings do fluctuate on a regular basis. This is based on how the search engines are ranking your website, and how well the website has been optimized for particular keywords.

One week your website could be on page two and the next it can be on page four for the same keyword. These jumps mainly occur when a lot of changes are made on page on the website or if you have managed to get some high page rank themed links from other websites. These fluctuating results can come as a bit of a mystery to many as the major search engines make it difficult to predict when these shuffles in the search rankings will happen. Google have several filters that they use in order to rank a website as well as Google penalties if the website is not adhering to their specific guidelines.

Below are a few of the filters that Google may use on a regular basis. These filters have not been confirmed by Google via any press releases but these are assumptions that SEO specialists use to help them understand Google better.

Google Bombing

Google Bombing is applied to websites that have gained a large amount of inbound links from external websites with the same anchor text. This is seen to Google as extremely unnatural for inbound linking to all have the exact same anchor text and this will be penalised.

Google 30

The Google 30 filter checks through the website and finds any SEO spammy techniques that Google believe they have tried to implement. Keyword stuffing in the meta description and in the main content on the site will bring penalties. As a result of these spammy techniques, the website will drop in the rankings by around 30 places.

Google Duplicate Content Filter

The Google Duplicate Content Filter, as the title of the filter suggests, looks at the duplicate content on websites who take credit for online content that has already been written, published and indexed on other websites. This page will in turn be penalised and the Page Rank can be devalued due to this duplicate content.

Google Sandbox

The Google Sandbox filter is mainly used on relatively new websites that seem to have domain names that have been around for a long period of time, such as over one year. With many domains not lasting longer than a year, Google have introduced the Sandbox filter to make sure that a new website doesn’t receive really good rankings for certain competitive keyword terms. These websites can still receive non competitive keyword terms on the major search engines though.

At SEO Junkies we take these filters on board and make sure that all of our SEO techniques are in line with Google’s guidelines. This ensures the best possible results on the major search engines and ensures that the website will not be penalised.
