How M-Commerce is Transforming Retail

In the space of the last 20 years mobile device usage has grown at an incredible rate. When we think of the capabilities of the first mobile phones that came to market, it is almost unbelievable how the technology has evolved to what we experience today. In 1995 sending a text message was one of the newest features in mobile communications, while today we can use phones at point of sale machines, to transfer money to other accounts, even to buy a car on ebay. Research indicates that there are now close to two billion smartphone users in the world, while figures for tablet users stands at close to 1.2 billion. The figure for both is expected to grow in the coming years.

This infographic by SnapParcel aims to increase awareness on mobile devices usage around the world, and how it is influencing how consumers shop online, and also in bricks and mortar outlets. 33 percent of respondents to a survey indicated that they are making more purchases online due to their mobile device. While retailers recognise that there is a need to involve mobile in their strategies, only 10 percent have planned for substantial investment.
