Google Public IPO and Search Engine Optimization

Google is Going Public with an IPO!
All of the major search engine optimization and search engine marketing news sources have gone nuts over Google and it's declaration of an IPO. An IPO, is an initial public offering. Made infamous by many dot coms in 1998 - 1999, Google is trying to bring it back in fashion.

With Google nearing an IPO many questions/concerns are being raised. Most of those are from seo's (search engine optimizers) afraid of losing the largest supplier of natural results. Google typically represents 60% of a natural search engine optimization campaign. The other 40% is spread out across the other major search engines such as Yahoo, AOL, MSN, AltaVista, Teoma and others. Since Google brings in so much traffic, it's only natural that seo's are scared. Let's find out why.

Below are some concerns of seo's and my thoughts on them

Google is going to focus on the bottom line instead of results and therefor must increase it's focus on paid listings, thus reducing the number of natural results since these are free.

My Thoughts: A recent interview with a Google executive reinforced the commitment to providing natural results and not charging a guaranteed inclusion fee like MSN, AltaVista and many other competitors. Google's reasoning is they want to keep the results fresh and reliable. By indexing all documents on the internet without charging, they will remain the internet's No.1 search engine for the same reason they became No.1 RELIABLE RESULTS!

Natural Results Won't be as Prominent with the IPO

My Thoughts: This one makes me laugh, I mean come on. Google knows that one of the main reasons it got to where it is today is because people can google the web for anything and find it. Natural results are a key part of their success and they aren't about to diminish them. Sure they may add another featured listing on the top of the page so there will be 3 instead of 2 but I don't believe they have any plans or reason to decrease the visibility of natural results.

Google Isn't Going to Update Natural Results as Often

My Thoughts: Quite the contrary. In recent months Google has undergone some serious improvements in the natural ranking arena. For example: Updates use to only occur once a month but now updates are almost constantly changing. Google is spidering sites and updating it's dev servers every day and multiple times a day for the more popular dynamic web sites. These dev servers are pouring data into the production servers almost as often. With the eve of an IPO Google isn't going to make it's results less reliable (a month old) but they will strive to perfect daily updates of their results in order to improve it's already stellar quality. This makes perfect business sense. Since it's business model is built on relevant and reliable search engine results.

We've covered a few of the hot topics concerning the Google IPO and how it relates to natural search engine optimizers. I think you'll agree that Google isn't going to make drastic changes to the natural results but we'll have to wait and see.
