Facebook Rolling Out Vanity URLs For User Profiles and Pages Saturday Morning

Social networking site Facebook will finally be launching vanity URLs for Facebook profiles and pages. On June 13th at 12:00 a.m. EDT, Facebook new vanity URLs will go live, and the landrush to get Facebook.com/YourName as your own will begin.

Being able to choose the URL for your social profile, replacing the current string of numbers and letters used to link to profile pages, is good news for the 200-plus million Facebook users.

Vanity URLs have proven to be a powerful tool because they not only help users build their personal destination on the Web, but they are also easier to remember and share with others. Since the link can involve your name, you can better promote it and make your Facebook page part of your personal branding strategy.

There are some rules to pick your vanity name:

You’ll be able to go to Facebook and claim your name on a first-come, first-served basis. That means that if you have a fairly common name and your full name is already taken, Facebook will give you a number of other options based on your real name.

“You can only choose a single username for your profile and for each of the Pages that you administer. Your username must be at least five characters in length and only include alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 0-9), or a period or full stop (".").”

Once you pick a user name, you won’t be able to change it or transfer it.
