Twitter Releases its Reality TV Plans

Twitter, one of the most well known social media sites on the web today, has announced its agreement with Reveille Productions and Brillstein Entertainment Partners to make a reality TV series in which the Twitter service will be used to hunt celebrities.

Before any of you get excited, and start eagerly anticipating the showdown between Jordan and Twitter, the term 'hunt' is being used in a metaphorical way; i.e. users involved will go on a head to head battle stalking famous figures of today's culture.

Twitter's Biz Stone has posted a statement on the official Twitter blog that says it won't be an official Twitter show, but rather, 'a lightweight, non-exclusive, agreement with the producers' that will allow them to create this show more freely than if Twitter had not gone ahead with the deal.

However, the decision to do this has met with criticism from some. Reality TV shows at their best do not tend to inspire the best of feelings in people, and Twitter joining the ranks seems to say to some that it is degrading itself from a free, fun-to-use service to, if Twitter wants to be part of this kind of show, a tool for the entertainment industry, then that is what it has become. Twitter's most passionate users do not seem to be happy with the deal, but only when the show finally airs will the real critics be able to jump in and air their views.
