AUSTIN, Texas (PRWEB) February 16, 2018 - Ed-tech solution provider Lightspeed Systems has announced two new features to Lightspeed Systems Relay, the K-12 device filtering and monitoring product for all device operating systems. The cloud-based software solution now offers Lockouts — a feature that locks student users out of the internet for attempting to access too many blocked websites — as well as Social Media Controls, which gives IT granular control over which social media networks students can access on school devices.
There are more devices in K-12 schools today than ever before, but IT departments need to maintain control of those devices to keep students safe and focused on learning.
Relay’s Lockouts reinforces safety and digital citizenship on devices by blocking internet access for students who try to visit too many inappropriate websites, allowing the IT admin to customize the duration of Lockouts as well as the threshold at which Lockouts occur. (For instance, the admin can lock out any students who access more than three blocked websites in five minutes, and set that lockout to expire in 30 minutes).
Social Media Controls is another feature in Relay that gives school IT a fast, easy way to customize web access for student users. Relay admins can selectively allow or block a variety of social media networks — for example, allow Pinterest and Instagram but disallow Twitter and Facebook — to help schools give selective access to only the social media networks that school personnel deem appropriate. Admins can also enable read-only mode for social media, giving students the ability to see and read content but not post.
The cloud-based, multi-OS Relay eliminates the need for multiple systems to filter, monitor and manage school devices with features for granular user activity reporting; content filtering, including SSL sites, with flexible policies; real-time suspicious activity alerts; and geolocation for lost and stolen devices. And all of these tools are available in a single, streamlined UI.
Relay 2.0, a major update of the software solution, was just announced last month at London’s international ed-tech conference BETT. Relay 2.0’s innovative design gives the ability to filter and monitor any device OS by deploying Lightspeed Systems Smart Agents. Version 2 also includes features such as simple SSL filtering, a Parent Report Generator and Smart Play, a YouTube management feature powered by machine learning.
