All over the globe, companies are leveraging the power of social media and are using it to attract the right customers. In the increasingly technological society we live in, online and social media marketing are absolute musts. Even if you’re using social media, however, there may be more that you could do. Consider these five reasons why you’d want to focus more on social media in 2018.

Brand Building

As a company, it’s very important to build a strong brand. The right branding will attract the right customer. To get clear about your branding, it’s best to choose the social media platform you want to use and the voice you want to have. Make sure the voice sounds the same throughout the entire platform. For example, if you’re using Instagram, make sure the captions are read the same way. If they sound like they come from a few different people, your followers will be able to tell.

Customer Engagement and Accessibility

A good business cares about its customers. In order show the customers you care, it’s best to engage them. It’s hard to have a conversation with someone who’s mute. This is the mistake that many businesses make. If the customer seems interested in the company by liking and commenting on all the photos, explore the interest by having a conversation.

Customers love when their favorite companies and brands take the time to respond to their messages. It doesn’t have to be a full-on, long conversation. However, a simple like or “thank you” comment with a heart emoji can make a customer’s day. Get into the habit of doing that and you’ll be able to get good engagement with your customers.

Client Retention

Social media helps businesses retain clients. When customers see their favorite companies out there doing the work, those companies are the ones that stay at the top of mind. It’s one thing to gain a customer for a one-time purchase. However, if you want to stay in business, it’s important to attract a tribe of repeat buyers. There’s no question as to whether or not people are hanging out on social media. So, if you want to retain your customers, it’s best to hang out where they do. This even applies to the online realm and platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

Competition Scoping

While you don’t want to become obsessed with your competition, it is wise to keep a pulse on what’s working for them. Look at their social media campaigns and figure out what their selling point is. Once you gather enough data regarding what works for the competition, create your own campaign that’s different, creative and innovative. Implement concepts that work without copying. When you create a carbon copy of what someone is already doing, you blend in and kill your chances of standing out as an original.

Relevancy

Many celebrities will pull major publicity stunts that bring negative attention. However, the negative attention is still attention and it keeps them relevant. As long as the negative attention doesn’t surround an area of breaking the law, most celebrities can leverage the tension and convert it into staying power.

Most directors and entertainment executives want people who the public is talking about. When one of these celebrities appears in their movies or on their television shows, this equates to increased ratings and more money. Maintaining relevancy is important. For a company to maintain its relevancy, it should leverage the power of social media and use it to engage others.

There is a myriad of ways to approach social media that spark conversation. Take a look at celebrities. Kim Kardashian engages her brand in a completely different way than Kevin Hart does. Remember that whether you choose to use LinkedIn like Nuskin or Instagram like WeWork, you can build an effective marketing strategy. It’s best to really focus on a few social media platforms and work on dominating them with the most attractive content. There’s no one way to operate on social media to gain a following, but you must become consistent with your voice and focus.
