The new European regulation regarding the protection of the data has effects in the entire world, including USA, China or any other country, taking into consideration that every company that deals with the Europeans’ personal data is bound to apply it.

Platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, AirBnb, Amazon etc. have started to notify their European users about the new conditions, in order to respect the European legislation.

Even though GDPR has the purpose of protecting the users’ data and forces the companies to ensure that they obtained a “free”, “specific” and “non – ambiguous” consent of the users to use their personal data, it affected both the users and the companies or websites.


Blocking the European users

Many of the sites have decided to block the European users with a day before DGPR was set in motion because its fines are extremely high regarding breaking the regulation about protecting the personal data.

We can consider that, through this extreme measure, the sites lost some important traffic, which was provided by the European countries, and even lost the sales, depending on the type of the business. In addition, the regulation that was adopted by some US sites privates the Europeans the access to information.


The decrease of the sales

Some online shops have reserved the right to stop selling products or services to the European people because of the DGPR. It is understandable that the penalties are extremely high, but in this case, GDPR affects both the income of the shops and companies, which concentrate their activity in the online world, and the users that no longer have access to the shops/sites.

All of this made the decrease of the sales be obvious, thus, the online shops started to adapt to the new data protection rules and to “open their gates” for the Europeans.


The negative impact on the users

When GDPR was set in motion, the hundreds of email received from all the sites, forums, and online shops where they have placed their personal data smothered the users.

It may seem insignificant, but the moment when your phone is full of hundreds of emails is not a pleasant one.

Moreover, when the users entered a site, they were assaulted by the pop – ups that needed to be completed in order to give their consent for processing the data, a situation that is unpleasant, especially when you are looking for a product on more sites or forums.


GDPR and the costs of the companies

GDPR forced the big companies to respect the new regulations in order to avoid ugly contraventions. The companies have invested a huge amount of money for hiring experts in protecting the data, which have the job of correcting their activity and procedures according to GDPR, in order to conform to all the regulations.



The year of 2018 will be marked by GDPR because its effects are reflected on the users and the companies, and the desire of protecting the personal data of the Europeans, made GDPR to backfire at the users that were deprived of the information, the goods or services of the companies outside the European Union.
