Here are five things you can do to increase targeted traffic to your website.
Start a blog - Set up a blog and attach it to your main domain. I recommend using the WordPress.org version. It has proven itself to be the best business blogging platform hands down. This is much different than the Wordpress.com version which won't allow you certain freedoms your business may need such as the ability to download highly useful plug-ins, personalized themes and code editing.
Try to incorporate you primary keyword or words into the name of your blog to ensure optimal search engine performance. Write new and extremely useful posts related to your business and website on a daily basis and be sure to link to your website from your blog. After a short time of doing this you will notice a sizeable increase of targeted traffic to your site.
Social Media - Do not underestimate the power of Twitter, StumbleUpon, Digg, Squidoo, Facebook and a few others. Set up your own personal accounts with these sites and link back to your blog and website. Don't forget to place their buttons on your article pages so your visitors can find your content at those sites. By doing this you accomplish two things. You are adding high PageRanked links to your site and you are increasing the awareness of your site.
It is worth noting that you must actively participate at these outlets to gain the full effect. In otherwords, if you are making friends on these social media sites while at the same time actively visiting those friends sites and helping them out they will help you in return by stumbling or digging your articles. There have been times that I have received two and three hundred visitors in a day from some of them. The bounce rate will be low if you use them properly.
Article Syndication - Write valuable articles related to your niche and submit them to sites such as the one you are reading this article on. You can also submit your articles to high profile bloggers. Some of them get an extraordinary amount of traffic on any given day. If your articles are compelling and useful to the blogger's visitors, he or she will publish it. Be sure you have a link back to your site in a resource box. One well written useful article can generate thousands of targeted visitors to your site forever. Remember, content is still the king.
Free Giveaways - Give away an up to date free eBook or highly useful downloadable software. Be creative. Give your visitors something they can use after they opt-in to your email form. If what you are giving away is extremely useful to your niche it will generate tons of traffic just by word of mouth alone.
Make a video - Videos are all the rave these days. YouTube will allow anybody to submit videos for the entire world to view. If you can create a video that strikes a nerve with a good portion of the population it could feasibly send thousands if not millions of visitors to your site. Think along the lines of funny, sad or highly informational. Be sure when you set up your account that you offer a link to your site. You may even want to show the link in the video itself.
Generating traffic to your website is an ongoing process. I would recommend incorporating at least one of each of the above tasks into your arsenal. If done properly, you will more than likely have more traffic than you care to analyze in your Google analytics account.
