How To Promote Your Blog Post: 7 things you should do after pressing on the publish button.

So after spending hours writing you finally published your blog post.

Great!

In contrary to what a lot of bloggers believe this is where the actual work starts.

Just relying on Google to rank your content in most cases will not get you the results you’re looking for.

You’re going to have to promote your content pro-actively.

Not only to get more exposure but also to increase the chance that you’ll rank higher in Google’s search engine results pages.

The problem is a lot of people that are new to online marketing don’t know exactly what to do after publishing their content.

This is why I have put together 7 things you should do after clicking on the publish button to promote your blog post.

1. Interlink with old content

People often underestimate the power of internal links in their SEO strategy because they don’t know the purpose of it.

Not only do Internal links make it easier for the Google search bots to find your content and index it properly but it also spread “link juice” from page to page.

This means you’re going to have to put some thought into what pages you want to link back to your new content.

Preferably these should be pages that are relevant and have high page authority.

2. Inspect URL on Google Search Console

Google Search Console is a free web service created by Google on which you can measure your performance when it comes to search traffic (traffic that comes from search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing).

After publishing your content on your blog you can fill the URL in the search bar to inspect it. When you do this you tell Google to send “search bots” to your content and index it.

3. Make a Pin and Promote on Pinterest

If you don’t have a Pinterest account I suggest you get one right now. Pinterest is a great way to get exposure and reach people outside of your own social circle.

You can also place the pin in your blog content so that other people can easily share your content on Pinterest with their own audience.

Over the last few years, Pinterest has quickly turned in one of the biggest sources of traffic for a lot of successful bloggers.

Don’t fall behind and become active on Pinterest.

4. Create a video version for YouTube

YouTube might not be what it used to be in 2012 when it comes to promoting your content but you can still use it to drive a lot of traffic to your website if you know what you’re doing.

Unlike the majority of online platforms, you can get a lot of views relatively quickly on YouTube if you know what you’re doing.

Aside from the content itself, it’s going to be important to create proper headlines and thumbnails to make this work in the long term.

I’d advise you to take a look at some courses to create a successful YouTube channel.

5. Send it to your email list

The quickest way to get eyes on your content is to alert your email list subscribers that you have uploaded new content.

If you don’t have an email list yet I’d advise you to create an email list one as soon as possible.

Here’s why:
The people in your email list are often the people that are the most bought in when it comes to your content and tend to stay longer on your website which is better for your SEO.

The moment you have an email list a lot of options open up for you. For example, you can start a drip campaign and built some anticipation or you can have the subscribers help with sharing the content.

6. Email outreach for backlinks

Depending on your niche it can be hard to get your content ranked on Google just by uploading it.

That’s why I’d advise you to start emailing other websites to see if they can link to your content. The more websites link to your content, the higher the chance becomes that you’ll get ranked high and get more traffic.

What’s important to know with outreach is that you should focus more on quality than quantity when it comes to backlinks.

One backlink from a high authority website can mean so much more than 50 backlinks from low authority websites.

7. Promote content in Private Niche-Related Facebook Groups

This is, in my opinion, the most consistent way to get traffic to your website. There are Facebook groups out there specifically made for promoting your content.

Not all of them bring great results but if you know the right Facebook Groups to promote your content in you could easily get an extra 200 website visitors a month.

What’s important to know is that these groups often have specific rules so before you start posting all your content read the rules so you won’t get kicked out.
