The NetReporter Fundamentals Never go Out of Style!

I recently attended an Internet marketing seminar in Las Vegas, the "Guerrilla Marketing Boot Camp", taught by web guru, Jay Conrad Levinson, author of the world famous Guerrilla Marketing series of books (www.jayconradlevinson.com).

Tickets to the event cost an astonishing $2,500 each and literally hundreds of people were in attendance.

As I sat there listening intently, I noticed a theme emerging that every web marketer at any level should practice -fundamentals!

The fundamentals of online marketing - in reality any marketing - come down to several basic principles which you must practice daily in order to succeed on the Internet.

Have a Goal.

Before you ever post the first web page, you must answer this question:

Why are you going online?

Is it to get leads?

Sales?

Cut printing costs by delivering information electronically?

Build your email list?

You must have aclearly defined goal for going online.

Have a Plan.

Once you have a goal of why to go online, you can then create a plan to help you reach it. Your plan becomes your roadmap to success in selling online.

If you don't have a written marketing plan for doing business online, you'll just waste time and money spinning your wheels.

Focus on the Customer.

Focus everything - your text, graphics, emails, products, how you answer the phone - on the customer. Everything you do, say, write and deliver in your business is about them, their needs, wants and desires.

Create Multiple Traffic Streams.

Any smart business draws new customers from multiple sources, including: direct mail, yellow pages, newspapers, magazines, referrals and more.

So too online!

You must have multiple streams of traffic feeding into your website from pay-per-click search engines, directories, joint ventures, link trades and more.

With multiple streams of traffic, if one dries up, you experience a minor inconvenience rather than a catastrophic business failure.

Build Relationships.

If business slows down, your best source for boosting revenue lies with your existing customers. You must concentrate on giving your customers more of what they want. They've bought from you already and that means the hardest part is over.

Now is the time to cash in with...

Follow Up.

Follow up with your customers with new information, product updates, breaking news and anything that will interest them. Do it professionally and regularly - but do it! More business gets lost online due to lack of follow up than for any other reason.

Have Patience.

Rarely does anything you do produce instant results. Over a period of time, the little things will add up to online business success. Have faith that the seeds you plant through consistent marketing, quality products and sincere, honest and quick customer service will bear fruit.

Marketing, selling and operating a business online comes down to simple, everyday principles anyone can practice.

Drive traffic across your site, sell a quality product, take care of your customers, follow up with your customers and have patience.

These are the keys to success.
